One of our hobbies is seaglass hunting. The colorful treasures wash up on our shores after tumbling in the ocean - it takes about 40 years to make them smooth. There are lots of green, white and brown pieces and we find rare colors too - pink, purples, teal blue, yellow and even red now and then.
If you like to stroll on little beaches looking for treasures, you'll be happy here along our shores.
We even have Seaglass Treasure Maps to share with you so you can easily find the best spots.
Come and find your treasure!
Just down the road in Plate Cove East, this ocean-side pool is fed by water from the brook! If you don't mind the cold, this is a great place for a dip in the ocean too. The beach there is a great place to look for seaglass.
Champney's West Aquarium is a fun and relaxed interactive place to learn about our sea life. They have a touch tank where you can hold some of the sea creatures.
Random Passage, in New Bonaventure, is a great place for kids to run freely and learn about what life was like here hundreds of years ago. They have guided tours there during the day.
The Matthew Legacy in Bonavista is a replica of the ship that John Cabot sailed on. You can board the ship and hear the interesting story.
Random Passage, pictured above, is one of our favorite historic spots. There are tours all through the day to tell you about what it was like to settle here on the edge of the sea.
The Ryan Premises, Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and Mockbegger Plantation in Bonavista all have tours during the summer months.
Tour The Factory in Port Union to hear the story of the first union-built town in North America. You'll see the big print presses they used to produce their newspaper and other interesting antiques.
Trinity has done a great job preserving their history and have 7 historic sites to visit there. Start at the Visitor Centre to get admission to all of these sites.
